IELTS Speaking Part 2 Cue Card
Describe something you bought
You should say:
- what the item is
- when and where you bought it
- why you bought it
- and explain how you feel about it
How to Answer This Question
To achieve a higher score, your answer should follow a clear structure. Start by introducing the item and giving basic details such as when and where you bought it.
Next, explain why you decided to buy it. This is important because it adds context and makes your answer more meaningful.
You should aim to speak for around two minutes, so it is important to develop your ideas. Describe how you use the item or what makes it useful, and include small examples if possible.
Finally, explain how you feel about it now. This reflection helps your answer sound more natural and complete.
Band 7–8 Sample Answer
I’d like to talk about something I bought not too long ago, which is a pair of wireless headphones.
I bought them about a few months ago from an online store, mainly because I needed something convenient for listening to music and watching videos while travelling.
Before buying them, I did a bit of research to compare different options. In the end, I chose this particular pair because they had good reviews and seemed to offer good value for money.
Since then, I have been using them almost every day. For example, I often use them when I am commuting or studying, as they help me focus by reducing background noise.
One thing I really like about them is how comfortable they are to wear for long periods. The sound quality is also quite clear, which makes the overall experience more enjoyable.
What makes this purchase satisfying for me is that it has improved my daily routine in a small but noticeable way.
I would say it was a practical purchase, and I am quite happy with it.
