IELTS Speaking Part 2 Cue Card
Describe a goal you want to achieve
You should say:
- what the goal is
- when you want to achieve it
- what you need to do to achieve it
- and explain why it is important to you
How to Answer This Question
To achieve a higher score, your answer should follow a clear structure. Start by introducing your goal and giving some context, such as when you plan to achieve it.
Next, explain what steps you need to take. This is an important part of your answer, so try to include specific actions rather than general ideas.
You should aim to speak for around two minutes, so it is important to develop your ideas. You can describe your plan, challenges you might face, and how you will stay motivated.
Finally, explain why the goal is important to you. This reflection helps your answer sound more personal and complete.
Band 7–8 Sample Answer
I’d like to talk about a goal that I want to achieve, which is improving my English to a higher level, particularly for IELTS.
This is something I have been working on for a while, and I would like to reach a level where I can communicate confidently in both speaking and writing. Ideally, I would like to achieve this within the next year.
To reach this goal, I have been using different resources, including the Learn English Weekly website, which provides structured materials for IELTS preparation. For example, I often practise speaking topics and review sample answers to improve my fluency and develop ideas more naturally.
In addition to that, I try to practise consistently by setting a daily routine. I also focus on improving specific skills, such as vocabulary and grammar, rather than trying to improve everything at once.
What makes this goal important to me is that it will open up more opportunities in the future, especially in terms of education and work.
I also feel that achieving this goal would give me more confidence when communicating in English, which is something I really value.
